A Passion for Pottery

Everyday life can be very hectic. Work, children and endless obligations. Unfortunately, COVID-19 made social life a lot quieter. But even then it is nice to switch off every now and then and to find myself busy with something completely different. Like an idea I’ve been playing with for a long time: clay. I ordered some online and started experimenting endlessly with different types of clay and shapes at the kitchen table. With my hands in the earth, I came to rest completely. I could have known before I started this because gardening also makes me very happy…

I prefer to sculpt manually. I like simple sculptural shapes in which I can literally and figuratively leave my handprint in. All made with love for the beauty of imperfection. It gives a huge boost to make something of “nothing”.

However, I have to admit that the lengthy process of modelling, drying, baking, glazing and then baking again is a huge challenge for an impatient person like me 🙂 But in hindsight I managed to spend this period very usefully and a new passion for clay was born.

We have been living in uncertain times for months now. But still I try to stay positive and the urge to throw some beauty into the world has only become stronger. So I will continue…

Exciting, of course, but those who don’t dare, won’t win!

X, Edith
