These carpets come from the Azilal region in the Atlas Mountains. The vintage rugs are about 20-30 years old and traditionally manually knotted by Berber women. Making these rugs is a form of art that is transferred from mother to daughter. Most rugs have an ivory or cream background and the beautiful colours are obtained by using plants and berries from the region. Azilal rugs are complex due to the combined use of irregular and abstract patterns in which different Berber symbols and diamond shapes are present. These were created on the basis of the personal taste and creativity of the weaver. This doesn’t just bring a rug into your home, but also a bit of history.
